Guidelines for Play
Friends of Chatham Pickleball

 
The goal of Chatham pickleball is to create a positive experience for our players. Our values embrace community, inclusivity, good sportsmanship, and player development.
To maintain a safe and welcoming environment, we ask everyone to abide by the following guidelines:
  • Understand and follow the rules of the game as defined by the USA Pickleball Association.
  • Play at your own risk.
  • Court shoes are strongly recommended for all players. Keep the inside of the courts clean and free of clothing, pickleball bags, backpacks, water bottles, and other equipment.
  • During member-only playing time, use the sign-up board to initiate play according to your skill level and experience. Strike a balance between level-specific and mixed-level games while being sensitive to the preferences of others.
  • If people are waiting for a court and/or partners,
    • Play doubles only (no singles).
    • Score to 9, win by 2.
    • Relinquish the court after completing your game and allow others to play.
  • There are gates at all four corners of the courts. Enter and exit using the gate closest to to your court. Do not walk onto an active court.
  • If your ball strays onto another court, call “ball on court” and wait for the ball to be returned to you. If your game is interrupted by a stray ball, stop and replay the point.
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship:
    • Be respectful and courteous to your opponents and partners.
    • Line calls are made solely by the receiving team; give your opponents the benefit of the doubt and accept their line calls graciously.
    • Call any foot faults at the baseline or kitchen line committed by you or your partner.
    • Play your best game but remember this is a recreational sport. Tailor your intensity of play to the skill/experience of your opponents and help newer players learn the game.
    • Keep your cool on and off the court. Refrain from verbal outbursts or profanity.
  • Be aware that lessons, league play, and tournaments are not permitted without prior approval from the Chatham Beaches & Recreation Department.
