NORTH BEACH RULES & REGULATIONS
- OWNERS OR LESSEES, NORTH BEACH ISLAND PROPERTY (CHATHAM): All regulations listed herein shall apply while using other areas of the beach. Persons who visit the beach by boat are required to respect private property and to conform to all regulations
- VEHICLES: One vehicle per camp and no vehicles in North area as marked and South tip as marked. Prohibited vehicles: Two-wheel vehicles, motorcycles, minibikes, mopeds, and snowmobiles. No towing of paragliders permitted. No Airplanes or helicopters shall land. No trailers permitted.
- CHILDREN under twelve (12) years of age must be accompanied by a responsible person sixteen (16) years of age or older.
- DOGS: From March 15 to Sept. 15th all dogs must always be on a leash unless below the high tide mark. Dogs are prohibited from areas closed to vehicle or human traffic for piping plover protection. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their animals. North Beach Island camp owners would retain traditional use rights for their own private property.
- SLEEPING in the open between 8:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. and the use of camping tents, sleeping bags, bed rolls or camping trailers for overnight camping on all beach areas is prohibited.
- FIRES: No open fires on the beach are allowed unless permits are obtained from the Chief of the Chatham Fire Department. Charcoal fires in grills are permitted. Douse coals before leaving.
- BEACH PARTIES of more than twenty (20) persons shall be required to carry a special permit (no additional fee), and shall name, in applying for such a permit, one individual in the group who shall agree to assume the responsibility for the activities of all members of the group while on the beach. Such permits shall be applied for 48 hours in advance of its proposed use. The party permit can be obtained by the Chatham Chief of Police and they shall designate the beach area on which such a party may be held.
- SWIMMING: The use of rafts, tubes, inflatable or other similar types of swimming or bathing devices are prohibited. NO KITES are permitted.
- TEMPORARY RESTRICTIONS: In addition to the foregoing regulations Chatham Park & Recreation Commission, Natural Resources Department and/or Chatham Conservation Commission may from time-to-time issue temporary restrictions applying to specific areas of North Beach Island.
- 10. North Beach Island is a very fragile environment. We ask that all visitors respect the natural features of the island and that you leave no trash behind.
PARK & RECREATION RULES AND REGULATIONS PROHIBIT THE CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN PARK AND BEACH AREAS.
VIOLATIONS- Penalties for infractions of any of the above regulations shall be fined of not less than fifty Dollars ($50.00) or more than three hundred dollars ($300.00) for each offense. Authority for the enforcement of the above regulations shall rest with the Chatham Chief of Police.
The above rules and regulations may be suspended from time to time by majority vote of the Chatham Parks and Recreation Commission.
The above rules and regulations do not, nor are they intended to, supersede, take the place of, replace, make void or repeal any Town of Chatham By-Law, any County By-Law, any State Law, Federal Law or any fines or legal punishments that are applicable in any instance.
